University and Work

I got my first job sometime around the second year I think.

Nothing quite compares to that first paycheck and knowing that you're actually making money.

But what happens when you're part time job starts taking priority over the job that been studying for?

I recently found myself in a similar situation. One thing I pride myself on is giving something ( a job, my relationships, life) my very best. I absolutely loved the job I had. I worked with the best of the best. But somewhere along the line, I think I forgot what I was working towards with my studies. The thing about life is that once you start balancing one thing, you find yourself to juggle another multitude of responsibilities. For some people, this works perfectly fine. I think for a lot of other people(myself included, this may require you slow down, take a deep breath and refocus on what exactly you're working to.

I hope you're aren't reading this thinking I was able to do the same thing. We do however live and learn from experiences.

So, part-time jobs are great, and the experience of working is so vital. Once the money starts coming in too, it makes the hours that much sweeter. But if you find that this is hindering your studies, it may be time to do what I mentioned above.

You may be reading thinking that you may not have the luxury to do so. I get it.

I would love to know how you coped with juggling a part-time job and your studies. Did this interfere at all? What tips would you give someone?

  1. During my first year of college, I found it very difficult to juggle my studies and work life. I found myself working a lot more than I was studying which eventually resulted in me falling behind in my coursework and ended up dropping out of the course. Although I was earning a lot for a 17/18 y/o guy (at least I thought I was) it made me stressed because I had x amount of stuff to catch up on + a graded unit project to finish. However, fast forward to now, I am still working in the same place, back in first year for the third time, new course, but what I am doing differently now is, I have made it crystal clear to the manager in charge that this is where my priorities lie. That would be my advice to whomever is reading or is facing a similar challenge - know your priorities, stand firm on them and ensure that you don’t get distracted with something that is good right now where you could have something even greater in the future. Also pray and pray A LOT! There’s only so much you can cope with as a student but having God (the big man) helping you out relieves you of the stress and worries and challenges that face you. Working and studying is hard man, you need all the help you can get 👍👆🙌🏼
