I Actually Have To Eat?
Welcome back to my blog.
So before we progress, do you like food? If so what's your favourite?
As you've guessed this blog is to do all with food. I personally think that the best part of university has been the food consumed. Often with people as a form of catching up. Till recently, I'd always thought food and I had a good thing going. However, at the beginning of the fourth year or possibly earlier. It became evident that this wasn't the case.
People had been mentioning that I was looking a bit skinnier than usual. Had I really though? Turns out they had been right. I dropped in clothing size (something that I thought was a good thing) and I was probably having one big meal a day with snacks in between.
I really had to take a moment to re-evaluate how I'd got here( Side note University will make you re-evaluate your life a number of times lol) At the time, I was hit with a memory of me telling someone how I could survive on one big meal. This really shocked me. How had I let this become the new normal? It dawned on me that the more I had on my plate, be stress, lack of sleep and poor time management - this then had a direct impact on my what and how I was eating. I felt really bad that I'd been dealing with food this way. But I came to the realisation that we all cope with stress differently. Some people overeat and I simply did the opposite.
So how have I got on top of this ( or how I'm I trying too)?
Well, I am actively thinking about my food now. One thing I found was that this activity became very passive. Now I physically tell myself that I have to eat when I wake up, I need to have something at lunch ( the meal I missed the most) and make sure that dinner is covered too.
Sounds pretty simple right? For me not so much. Some days are better than others. It's really dawned on me that my relationship with food is so vital. If you're reading this and relate to this in some shape or form. I really can't emphasise the importance of food. That daunting deadline, that document that needs to be urgently completed will still be there after you've had something to eat. You have to make time for the body. This topic ties into a much bigger picture but for now, I'll leave it at that.
But I am glad to finally be striking the balance.
Have you struggled with food at university? If so how did you go about handling this?
