It Takes A Village
I've written, erased, and rewritten this so many times.
But as you may have gathered, I seem to be in reflection mode a lot these days. I guess as this chapter of my life draws to a close it can’t be helped. So bare through for a while longer. Today, I’ve been thinking of my village. By village, I mean friends, family, and *gasp* academic tutors (they’ve been useful too) that have gathered around me these last four years. My heart is bursting at the seams as faces flash through my mind currently.
I feel like the world’s message especially as you strive for success shouts “to get anywhere you’ve got to do it alone.” Have you felt similar? Or is this all in my head?
I couldn’t have done university by myself. You’re probably thinking "but the exams and coursework you’d have had to do them alone." Technically, yes I would have had too.
But for me to sit through the numerous assignments and have to do it so confidently ( sometimes – other times these were done with fear and uncertainty) I had a village out there praying, encouraging and loving me hard. Because there’ll be times, you won’t be able too.
Here’s a little (big) thing I’ve learned, you can’t do this alone. I don’t just mean university, life too. Why? Because you are human. As humans, we are emotional and imperfect beings. There'll be moments that you’ll be ready to give up. There’ll also be instants where you won’t remember why you started in the first place. Its times such as these were your village will draw close. They will encourage you, correct you (we all need correcting now and again) and just be there. Sometimes that is all you need. People to stand with you and be a listening ear. They won’t only be there for the tough moments, but they’ll be there to celebrate (with) you every time you overcome the road blokes that just seemed impossible at the time.
To my village, some of you may not be aware you are but thank you for being around.
I really could go into more detail but if you don’t have a village, count me as one. You don’t have to do it by yourself. Also, be on the lookout. You’ll be surprised how many people end up in yours as time goes on.
Enough from sappy me. Till next time.
